Project Potemkin temporarily released, then withdrew a rough cut of a live action fan film made at Trek Trax Atlanta over the weekend of April 20-21, 2013. Watts has always been gracious enough to permit us to film at these conventions, as well as arrange for some of his guests to appear in them and guest star in them as well as Korgoth the Klingon bartender. We would also reach out to other fan productions and ask that they appear as well...

Written by Dave MacKenzie and me. It starred Abby Evans Pierce Christin Woods, Leslie Lewis, and Renda Carr. Returning as Korgoth (at a new bar) was Eric Watts. It featured even more involvement from other fan productions, including Michael Bednar, Dan Scanlan and Stephen Stevers from Starship Farragut; Joann Dawn, Darren Hann, and Philpe Enguehard from Starship Reliant; Jim Brucke from Starship Lexington; Brian Holloway from New Voyages; and several attendees from Treklanta including Wil Sims, Rebecca Pullens, Cree Myers and Dr. Tony Roberts to name a few. It was quite an involved production, and with its Twilight Zone-ish ending, quite a good episode, especially with excellent performances from Joann and Abby.

Written by Christin Woods, it stars Eric L. Watts as Korgoth the opera-singing Hotel Owner and Larry Furlong as the Orion, and it follows them as they proceed on the task of trying to find out who ordered Larry as a plaything. The first door he knocks on belongs to T'Noshi (Christin Woods), Asherah (Leslie Lewis) and Dr. Mathias (Matthew Trammel) who have been engaging in what T'Noshi describes as "an interesting experiment." Korgoth moves on to a room occupied by a priest of the Great Bird of the Galaxy, wonderfully played by Jason Carter from Babylon 5, who rebukes them. The next room they try belongs to a number of Klingons (played to the hilt by the Starship Reliant group--Darren Hann, Rob LeDrew, Joann Dawn, Karen Hann--and Steven Stevers and Dwane Hewatt) who reject them and demand to know where their pizza with anchovies and pineapple is, and warning if it is not forthcoming soon there will be consequences. Losing faith, Korgoth tries one more room, and successfully delivers the Orion and gets a tip as well. It is almost a textbook example of French farce. (Google it if you have doubts.)

Season 5 P37 — 25min 01sec — 01 December 2022
Seven years ago, the U.S.S. Potemkin, NCC-1711, Captain Alex Grigory, commanding, was set upon by eleven Romulan Birds of Prey. The crew abandoned ship, but Alec Grigory was lost, presumed deceased. Now, many of his old crew have been reunited, assigned to a new U.S.S. Potemkin, NCC-4517, and dispatched with orders to meet a shuttlecraft with its pilot, a Doctor Skep Anderson, formerly of the U.S.S. Tristan, and his passenger, identity unknown.

And we hadn't quite finished the location shoot (it was cold and windy in Mexico Beach that day), but word came suddenly and unexpectedly that we were relocating to Birmingham, Alabama. We quickly wrote a script about the destruction of the Potemkin, filmed it and without much notice, had a fitting end to the series with "Destinies."

With barely any time to pack up the studio, we moved to the suburb of Pelham AL, came back and salvaged two truckload of materials from Studio 2, and went back to Pelham to set up house and to create Studio 3. Only a handful of actors were able to transition with us to Birmingham/Pelham and they appeared in Starship Tristan and Starship Deimos.

Plans for Callie were set on what we thought was permanent hold. Footage saved and digitized. And we ending up using some of the footage from the teaser of Callie as the epilog for "Destinies."

Five years later, and we moved again, this time to Lexington KY and in a house that had a full basement capable of serving proudly as Studio 4. Even fewer actors from Birmingham followed up to Lexington, but those that did comprised the crew of the Starship Deimos. Tristan, Marie Curie, Kupok, Endeavour, and Alexander were let go. We had footage from a partially filmed Starship Tristan, and Rick Foxx was able to assemble it into "36 Hours" during the COVID epidemic. We had created Starship Webster here in Lexington with local fans and actors, but the COVID protocols pretty much shut us down.

I looked for something to do, and I thought back to "Callie" and assembled the edit. David Eversole and I bounced around a few ideas, and then came up with a script that utilized the footage. We worked out some details with Jeff Green, Christin Woods, MJ Johnson, Jack Zumwalt and William Searcy. Linda and I made a road trip to Albany GA (nine hours from Lex), and shot the footage we needed to complete, well, mostl complete "Callie" which had been transmorgrofied into "The Castaway." We missed a few things, and Jeff Green managed to get those shots to us. Actors were able to record their lines by phone (and yes, you can probably tell which ones!). Some actors we'd totally lost track of. Others were quite happy to help. Terrell Manasco shot the Tribunal sequence with three actors from Birmingham.

So we're delighted to present to you a hodge-podge of a resurrected episode of Project: Potemkin. At least five cameras were used in this production, none of them at the same speed or resolution. And I don;t even want to think about the mics. But this one is still a work of love, just like all of our work has been, is, and will continue to be.
